About Me |
Hi, my name is Lauren (pseudonym) and I am currently a high school student in Houston. Until recently, I too believed that sexism was over and that, at the coming of our new age, we were an equally unbiased environment. However, my eyes were soon opened as I saw the true prejudices of my high school, my community, and the atmosphere. I have decided to therefore create a blog where I hope to enrich others' views on sexism and hopefully open another individual's eyes to the stereotypes onto which we are inflicted.

about sexism |
So...what is sexism in the first place? Well, according to the Oxford Dictionary, sexism is defined as "prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex." And, holistically, this is true. Sexism is about the unequal pay which men are offered in society (not that I am a man-hating traditionalist), the discrimination which women face in job opportunities, and their need to conform to society. However, this is not entirely what sexism is about. Sexism also covers the discrimination which women face on a day-to-day basis at being catcalled, and when they are told at their neighboring high schools that "home-ec" is meant for only their gender. It is big, it is vast, it is wide, and it is important. And together, we must change it.

Our Mission Statement |
I hope to bring about even the slightest change in others' opinions on the equalities of sex and to create an overall society which is more aware of gender discrimination. Together, we can confront this issue and make a difference in our lives (and the many lives of others).
